Automates Junction Box Assembly System for PV Modules

The Spi-J Boxer™ 2013 is an automated junction box assembly system. It is a flexible, fully automated workstation that attaches and seals a junction box to a photovoltaic module's back surface and makes the necessary electrical connections within the junction box. The System operates as an in-line process station in a photovoltaic module manufacturing line without operator interaction.

Solar modules are supplied sequentially to the System on a conveyor with the back side up and the output leads protruding from the module surface. The System locates, lifts and bends the leads to a position 90º from the module surface, dispenses adhesive sealant around the edge of the junction box, and accurately places the junction box onto the module surface with sufficient force and hold time to achieve an adequate seal and adhesion. The System then welds the leads to the connection lugs in the junction box.
